Hi,

It's World Cup fever now. As I'm writing this, the match is going on between England and Ecuador. Yes, my wife is sleeping now. So are millions of women across the world, I guess...;-) For this one month, they are labeled 'World Cup Widow'. A survey in the UK found that 30 per cent of World Cup widows would rather go shopping than watch a match while another 30 per cent said they would prefer a meal with friends.

Not only women will be ignored during the World Cup, children can feel neglected too. One way to make sure women and children do not feel left out is to JOIN THE MAN...;-) Get the whole family involved, make the big matches a family event. Otherwise, you could go to bed early with a good book and earplugs, knowing that it will be over in one month! Got to stop writing now, second half of the match just started. Ciao!

Memories not made: Spending more time with your children

Don't you get caught up in the rat-race of acquiring "stuff" so that you are overlooking the importance of spending time with your children. Remember, you only have one chance at it!

Q2: I have a question about gifted children. One of my sons is 8 year old has had his mind set on being an astronaut since he was two. He knew all the planets and moons before 3...I have kept track of all of my children's development and do everything I can to give them opportunities to explore their interests, as well as support their dreams for the future. I would like to find a gifted program that would give my son the challenges in math that he so often asks for. Do you think I should have him tested? (I'm unsure about the validity of such things) Is it possible he is gifted?

Q3: My daughter is almost 3.5 year old and I think she is above average for her age by the things she does, but not sure she is gifted as such? She could speak clearly by 10 months old, sentences by 18 months and now has full conversations, on the telephone with people and at home. She has an exceptional memory, remembering small things from well over a year ago.... I would appreciate any comments you have so that I can build on her abilities and guide her.

Q4: Recently my son was given the WISC IV test at school for a psyhcoeducational evaluation that his doctor had requested. Below are my questions:

1. In regards to the VCI, how many areas are covered? Is it true the five areas are similarities, vocabulary, comprehension, information, and word reasoning?

2. Can PRI score be accurate when the area of Picture Completion was not completed?

3. Can a full scale IQ be determined when information of Q2 is missing?
